Collaborative Mind-Mapping

Fertility, Identity & Future Self

This activity is designed to help participants collectively explore emotional associations, anxieties, hopes, memories, and questions surrounding fertility, transition, bodily autonomy, and imagined futures. This activity functions both as a tool for discussion, and a visual mapping exercise of where everyone is at.

Participants can contribute through:

  • Writing

  • Drawing

  • Symbols

  • Colour

  • Collage

  • Sticky notes

By doing this activity, we are encouraging participants to identify recurring emotional themes whilst still allowing space for individual experiences and contradiction.

Central Prompt Example

What does fertility mean to you?

From this central point, participants build outwards using whatever methods feel comfortable to them.

Exhibiting Mind-Maps

It would most likely be that the mind-maps themselves would be exhibited as opposed to photos or scans. This means that the mind-maps would be collected after the session as opposed to being taken home.

It would be likely that this activity would be done on the same day as another activity, preferably one where people can feel like they’re taking something home too. This would help people feel like they’ve taken something from the sessions rather than left with nothing after sharing personal topics.
